Stereotype

Self portraits as a fictional volunteer of the Irish Republican Army.

Picking meat out of teeth with gun in hand

I'm from Dundalk on the border with Northern Ireland. While I was at college in Limerick, I got a lot of stick about being in the IRA. My dress sense only added to this stereotyped wrangle. I had a fondness for black along with my steel-toed cap army boots and beret. It triggered off this project at the time, portraying myself as a fictional volunteer. A witless soldier picking the meat out of my teeth while brandishing a gun close to my head. The absurdity of it all.
