Hidden in a narrow lane off Abbey Street, this amusement arcade is easy to miss despite its bright yellow front and ornate statues on the roof glancing down on this seedy spot. The things that they would have seen. For decades it has stood in this small part of Dublin's city centre, quietly existing alongside the ongoing changes in the nearby streets. The bright outside contrasts with the old building and the historic cobbled lane, showing the mix of old and new that exists throughout the city.

I am attracted to these unnoticed places just outside Dublin's main streets. They are often spots we pass by without seeing, yet they play an important role in the city's look and shared memories. As rebuilding keeps changing the city centre, many of these buildings and businesses face an uncertain future, slowly vanishing from the city scene.

The striking sky, the wide yellow road markings, and the rich colour of the front turn an otherwise normal street into something almost like a movie scene. While the photo highlights the strong shapes and colours of the scene, it also acts as a record of a familiar Dublin street view that might change. My work aims to save these everyday places before they are changed or lost, understanding that ordinary things often become important only after they are gone.

It has all changed now and new murals have been painted over these blocks of colour.
